The youngster who reads voraciously, though indiscriminately, does not necessarily gain in wisdom over the teenager who is more selective in his reading choices.

    Example: Modern warfare often results in the indiscriminate killing of combatants and innocent civilians alike.

A young man who has read the life story of every eminent athlete of the twentieth century, or a coed who has steeped herself in every social-protest novel she can get her hands on, may very well be learning all there is to know in a very limited area.

3. eminent[`ɛmənənt](adj.) important, respected, and admired

    Example: The eminent author received the Nobel Prize for literature.

   eminently(adv.)[formal] very or very much

    Example: Mike seemed eminently more intelligent than the rest of the team.

   eminence(n.)[formal] importance because of impressive achievements, character, or status

4. steep(adj.) a steep slope rises quickly and is difficult to climb

    (adj.) a steep drop or fall is sudden and nearly

    (adj.) steep prices are very high

    steeply(adv.), steepness(n.)

    (v.) to leave something such as food or cloth in a liquid for some time

    be steeped in sth : to have a lot of a particular quality or thing

    Example: My cousin is so steeped in schoolwork that his friends call him a bookworm.

But books are replete with so many wonders that it is often discouraging to see bright young people limit their own experiences.

5. replete [rɪ`plit](adj.) [very formal] full of something +with

    Example: For him, the city was replete with memories.

    (adj.) feeling that you do not want anything more to eat
