In 1860, Robert O'Hara Burke, a police officer from Ireland, was chosen to lead an expedition across the continent from south to north.

But it was the first expedition to cross Australia, and Burke and Wills are still known as heroes of exploration.

2. break down = stop going or working (often said about a car)

    Example: The car broke down just outside Winchester.

3.call on = to officially ask a person or organization to do something

    Example: The human rights group has called on the US to end the death penalty.

Mary does not usually put away her clothes.She just leaves them on a chair or on the bed.

4. put away = to put something in the place where you usually keep it when you are not using it

    Example: He put the notebook away and stood up.

It took me two weeks to get over my cold.

5. get over sth = to start to feel happy or well again after something bad has happened to you

    Example: It can take weeks to get over an illness like that.
